What is honeycomb?

Answer:
Honeycomb is a lightweight core material made from a variety of different materials, resulting in a cellular structure that resembles a bee's honeycomb. Sandwiched between two face sheets of metal or composite materials, it creates a lightweight, rigid and durable part.
Question:
What does Alcore manufacture?

Answer:
Alcore produces a full line of expanded and corrugated aluminum honeycomb products, including specialty energy absorbers. Densities range from below 1.0 PCF to 55.0 PCF. To manufacture these products, Alcore uses three foil alloys and various surface treatments, including our own in-house PAA™ priming line.

Does Alcore make composite honeycomb?

Answer:

Does Alcore do Special Processing?

Answer:
Yes, Alcore has two Special Processing Centers, one for metallic cores and one for non-metallic cores, which can include NOMEX, KOREX, KEVLAR, fiberglass, balsa wood, foams and other core materials.

What is Special Processing?

Answer:
Special Processing is where raw honeycomb is converted into detailed shapes. Alcore's Special Processing abilities include planforming, chamfering, routing, stabilizing, roll-forming, potting, multi-density bonding, heat forming, horizontal and vertical sawing, arc and flat expanding, and 3- & 5-axis machining. Alcore also has the ability to design and manufacture tooling.

Since Alcore's facilities are 100% clean core, any parts we ship need no further cleaning or degreasing, and are ready to go right into your bond room for immediate layup.

In which forms can I purchase Alcore honeycomb?

Answer:
Alcore honeycomb can be purchased in blocks, unexpanded slices, expanded sheets, cut-to-size pieces and special process details.
Question:
Can Alcore build to print?

Answer:
Yes. The Alcore engineering department is fully staffed to meet your most demanding engineering requirements.
Question:
Does Alcore have CAD/CAM capabilities?

Answer:
Yes, Alcore has Pro/Engineer, AutoCad R14 and data translation capabilities from IGES, UniGraphics and CATIA. We encourage customers to submit technical data electronically.

Does Alcore manufacture bonded panels?

Answer:

Can I purchase small amounts of honeycomb?

Answer:
Alcore generally stocks most industry standard materials, and specializes in expedited delivery of small shipments through our Alcore Overnight service. Please contact our Customer Service team for more details.

Does Alcore provide samples?

Answer:
In most cases (depending on the core type and availability), Alcore can provide you with samples for your evaluation.
Question:
How much does honeycomb cost?

Answer:
Honeycomb prices range from USD $1.00 to $100.00 per board foot depending on the core type.
Question:
How do I specify the type of honeycomb that I want to purchase from Alcore?

Answer:
Please specify material type, density/foil gauge, alloy, cell size, perf/non-perf, product form (block, unexpanded slice, etc.), thickness, length, width, quantity and any specifications that apply. Please note that Alcore has a quote request form on this web site that walks you through all the information we need to get you a fast, accurate quotation.

What specifications are Alcore honeycomb qualified too?

Answer:
Alcore is qualified to numerous OEM specifications. Please contact our Customer Service team for more detailed information.

Answer:
Yes, Alcore exports honeycomb throughout the world, and maintains manufacturing and Special Processing facilities in both North America and Europe. Please contact our Customer Service team for the name of the sales representative in your area.
