M. C. Gill Announces Ballistic Laminates for Cockpit Protection
- 15 January 2002

El Monte, California - 15 January 2002 - M. C. Gill Corporation announced that it passed the specification requirements for NIJ III-A on two ballistic laminates. This is the recommended level of threat protection for cockpit doors and related applications.

Since its founding in 1945, M. C. Gill has a history of developing bullet resistant materials that have been used in everything from judges' benches to aircraft interiors. "In response to September 11th events, a major emphasis was given to the creation of a new generation of ballistic laminates that would address the need for bullet resistance. Our goal was to quickly develop a new generation of Gillfab® laminates that respond to reduced weight and stringent flammability requirements," Irv Freund, VP of Sales and Marketing explained.

"We fast tracked ballistic laminates that are capable of protecting the crew and potentially saving the lives of passengers. We just received a test report from an NIJ certified ballistics laboratory and are taking orders," Freund said.

These Gillfab laminates have already been tested for flammability, smoke and heat release criteria and continue to be among the few in the industry to meet all of these requirements simultaneously. This provides a major advantage to aircraft operators as it helps them respond to all of these FAA requirements at once.

The M. C. Gill ballistic laminate selections are:

  • Gillfab 1360A
Made of Kevlar® fabric. Kevlar fabric is a globally recognized material for ballistics applications. This long trusted material combines ballistic penetration resistance and strength with light weight.

    Weight:     2.00 psf/9.76 kg/m2
    Thickness:     0.320ins/8.1 mm

  • Gillfab 1394
An S-2 Glass® laminate that is puncture resistant and offers superior strength. Well accepted S-2 Glass doesn't suffer from moisture sensitivity and has good UV resistance. It is easy to machine.

  • Weight:     2.83 psf/13.82 kg/m2
    Thickness:     0.280 ins/7.1 mm

M. C. Gill Corporation will custom manufacture these laminates as raw stock or to your specification, and can increase their bullet resistant capabilities to meet other NIJ threat resistance levels for specific applications.
